Ecommerce Europe<\/a> is very pleased to announce that the General Assembly elected Wijnand Jongen as its new President. He will take on the position for a three-year mandate.<\/p>\n

Wijnand Jongen (Dutch, 1959) has been an essential part of Ecommerce Europe since its foundation in 2012. Mr. Jongen is one of the co-founders of the European digital e-commerce association, Chairman of its Executive Committee and member of the Board of Directors. He brings in a wealth of knowledge and experience on topics in retail and e-commerce.<\/p>\n

Mr. Jongen has been working in the e-commerce industry since 1995, first as a co-founder and CEO of the virtual shopping comparison site Macropolis. He founded the Dutch e-commerce association Thuiswinkel.org, of which he has been CEO since 2000. He is a member of the Strategic Committee of FIRA, a global alliance of retail industry associations based in Washington DC.<\/p>\n

He is the bestselling author of the book \u2018The End of Online Shopping: the future of retail in an always connected world\u2019, translated in 10 languages and released in some 20+ countries. His latest book \u201925 Years History of E-Commerce\u2019 has just been released in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

Wijnand attended the University of Amsterdam, as well as the Randolph-Macon College and Averett University in the United States. He earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Averett University (1993) and a doctoral degree in Educational Studies at the University of Amsterdam (1986). His work has guided him through several sales, consultancy and management positions in the Netherlands and the United States.<\/p>\n

Mr. Jongen commented on his election: \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to become the new President of Ecommerce Europe, now that the association stands at the brink of a new era. With the merge of Ecommerce Europe and EMOTA, the digital e-commerce industry in Europe speaks again with one voice as of 1 January 2020. It\u2019s my privilege to serve 100.000+ webshops and bricks and mortar retailers from all over Europe in a time of profound changes and challenges for the industry. With the joined support of 25+ national e-commerce associations from all parts of Europe I am confident we will be able to bring the industry into its full potential in the new decennium, serving our customers in our webshops, via platforms and marketplaces in the best, most trustworthy and green way possible\u201d.<\/p>\n

Marlene ten Ham, Secretary-General of Ecommerce Europe said: \u201cEcommerce Europe members and I are delighted with the election of Wijnand Jongen. He is a leader in this industry and will definitely bring Ecommerce Europe to new heights. We look forward to working with him in his new role, and together we will aim to present an even stronger and united voice of the digital commerce sector to the European institutions\u201d.<\/p>\n

Wijnand Jongen expressed his gratitude to the outgoing President of Ecommerce Europe, Mr. Fran\u00e7ois Momboisse, for all his years of dedication and hard work for the European association. He added: \u201cUnder Fran\u00e7ois Momboisse\u2019s leadership, Ecommerce Europe became the single voice for digital commerce in Europe, following the merger with EMOTA as of 1 January 2020.
